Virago "Stripes & Sushi" Activation – Chef Week 2016's Private Dinner Experience with Chef Andrew  + Pinstripe Artist Igor Acord

[meet Our EXECUTIVE CULINARY LEADERS]

An exclusive look at chef week, spring 2017:

Chef Week 2017 featured a series of ticketed, private dinner experiences debuting the Creative Collision of culinary innovation and visual artistry. Imagine food displayed as wall art, dishes framed by custom-crafted woodwork and chefs' creations inspired by monochromatic color and cubism. Re-live the activations with our recap videos and photography below.

FEATURING EXECUTIVE CHEFS JASON SLIMAK + JAY FLATLEYSHANE MIDNIGHT + M STREET'S ARTIST ALLIANCE with a special showcase by DESIGNER DERRICK CASTLE + SONY MUSIC ARTIST ROBERT COUNTS

Tucked away in privacy, Saint Añejo's upstairs Mezzanine transforms into an art gallery with culinary displays of new menu and cocktail innovations interwoven amongst graffiti art, murals, and airbrush designs.

MOTO: INTERACTIVE ILLUSION

FEATURING EXECUTIVE CHEF BRANDON CHAVANNES +
FASHION DESIGNER DENISE ROXENSTONE + VISUAL ARTIST BRANDON DONAHUE

Executive Chef Brandon, Airbrush Artist Brandon Donahue and Fashion Designer Denise Roxenstone join forces to create an interactive, progressive activation where table design becomes part of the culinary display with orchestrated surprises of illusion for guest engagement throughout the five course dining experience.

KAYNE PRIME: AN ORCHESTRATED COLLISION

FEATURING EXECUTIVE CHEF STEVEN CHANDLER + GRAFFITI ARTIST NATHAN BROWN + VISUAL ARTIST CHRIS ZIDEK + WOODWORKER PATRICK HAYES + VIDEOGRAPHER MICHAEL SATI

All art has similar motions yet results in limitless differentiation. Chef Steven Chandler and Visual Artists Nathan Brown, Chris Zidek, Patrick Hayes, and Michael Sati demonstrate how the creative process sublimates into culinary artistry during this paired seven course dining activation. From ballet to woodwork, artistic integrations become woven into every element of this culinary journey as the story unfolds.

VIRAGO: OUTSIDE THE BOX

FEATURING EXECUTIVE CHEF ANDREW WHITNEY + PINSTRIPER IGOR ACORD + VISUAL ARTIST BRIAN WOODEN

Drawing upon artist's innate inclination to think "outside the box", Chef Andrew and Artists Igor Acord and Brian Wooden co-produce this cubism-inspired, seven course, paired dining activation. With elements of pin striping and graffiti art, Virago's Lotus Room converts into an artist's studio where edible art is revealed throughout the dining experience for guests to discover and further engage.

The inspiration for my Color Studies paintings are about my investigation of color and texture and the circumstances that both endure throughout my painting process. Whether geometric or organic, I implement techniques that help push and pull colors.

Lately we’ve really been drawing inspiration from our travels and the different architecture from city to city. In the past we have had a huge influence from both Southwestern and Art Deco movements.

My passion is that of a traditional sign painter. When the “sign man” had soul. Between the happiness in my customers’ faces and the fact that I’m a part of keeping this art alive ... It’s a good life.
