What is m Street?


Located on McGavock Street between 11th and 12th Avenues in the Gulch, M Street is the neighborhood where all of our restaurants and venues exist, with the exception of Tavern, located on Broadway in Midtown.

The parent company to Virago, Citizen, Whiskey Kitchen, Kayne Prime, Tavern, Moto Cucina + Enoteca, Saint Anejo, and The Rosewall,  M Street Entertainment Group is a lifestyle brand for guests that look for style, originality, and authentic experiences.

Although each concept is unique in cuisine style and atmosphere, the M Street signature style is firmly branded in each. The M Street signature is readily identifiable with exceptional quality, consistency, hospitality, and innovation.




M Street was developed by its Founder, President, and CEO Chris Hyndman, and a group of Investing Partners that share the M Street vision. The roots for M Street began in 2000 with the opening of Virago at its original Midtown location.

Virago was a pioneer in a time when the city had few successful independent restaurants. Its combination of stylish design, progressive music, and adventurous Asian fusion cuisine was unique to Nashville and introduced an edgier, more cosmopolitan dining experience. Virago established itself as a hot spot for a “big city” dining and social experience, and led the local dining scene in what city publications were calling the “New Nashville”.

In 2008, Hyndman developed the plan to relocate Virago to its new home at 1126 McGavock Street in the Gulch. During its massive design and construction period, two restaurants under separate ownership located on the same block closed for business. Simultaneously seizing opportunity and creating a vision, Hyndman and team took over the vacant spaces, and opened “pub-chic” Whiskey Kitchen in September of 2009. Virago and its members-only club, Citizen, opened the new location the following October of 2010 to enormous acclaim, and redefined what is possible for the Nashville dining scene.

In January of 2011, Hyndman retooled the beloved Latin-fusion “Lime” restaurant he owned in Midtown into gastro-pub Tavern, and in April of 2011, Hyndman and team opened M Street’s crown jewel boutique steakhouse, Kayne Prime. Fall of 2013 was a busy one on M Street, as both The Rosewall, the company’s 8,000 sf multi-functional warehouse style event space, and Saint Anejo, the rock and roll inspired Mexican cantina, opened their doors.

The very latest venture for the culinary community was opened in February 2014, Moto Cucina + Enoteca - Nashville’s premier Nashville Italian concept known for its elegant yet accessible atmosphere, amazing food, and top-notch service. M Street has been transformed from an unassuming neighborhood in the Gulch into a cultural force and epicurean powerhouse.
